The YangPu Bridge
The YangPu Bridge, spanning over the HuangPu River, is the biggest suspension bridge in the world. The overall length of the bridge is 7,658 meters, and it’s main span is 602 meters. A pair of 208 meters high towers stands on the grand bridge. The whole bridge is in inverted “Y”. The main structure of the bridge is supported by 256 pieces of stay cables, and the longest one , which is made by 301 pieces of 7 millimeters in diameter high-strength steel wires, is 328 meters in length and 33 tons in weight.
The main bridge has an overall length of 1,172 meters, a width of 30.35 meters. And there are six two-way lanes on the bridge, and it also has a sidewalk, which is two meters in length, on each side. The speed-limit of the bridge is 60 kilometers per hour. The bridge, completed in 1993,has a capacity of 50,000 automobile vehicle every day.The bridge has a net height of about 48 meters, and a ship of 50,000 tons can sail under it.
